In terms of content, CTC/Maribor is related to the EGAIS project that many of the conference initiators and participants are a part of.
The EGAIS (The Ethical GovernAnce of emergIng technologieS: New Governance Perspectives for Integrating Ethics into Technical Development Projects and Applications) Project is a three-year project funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme (Science and Society) taking an interdisciplinary approach (philosophy, organisation science, technology and information science) to integrating ethical considerations within technical development projects through governance mechanisms.
The aim of the EGAIS project is to provide new analysis, assessment and governance guidelines for the ethical consideration of emerging technologies and their applications. It aims to provide to the stakeholders in general guidance towards a coherent and cohesive approach to the integration of ethical consideration within projects that begins with the proposal design and continues throughout the project.
The core of the investigation is the specific field of AmI (Ambient Intelligence) technologies, whereas the ending point is the set of the guidelines for AmI and other fields of technology. They will be generated based on these main steps:
an empirical analysis of EU-funded AmI projects will be conducted and way the ethical and moral issues are addressed will be emphasized a ranking of the governance and ethical issues will be performed, according to the theories of governance analysed in literature a comparative analysis of the advantages and insufficiencies of such patterns of governance structures will be conducted the theoretical outcomes will be applied to different technological domains to catalogue deficiencies in ethical governance mechanisms general policy guidelines based on the above findings will be developed
Given the wide impact of the ethical implications that arise from emerging technologies, EGAIS will actively take into consideration the feedback gained directly from key stakeholders, namely: those who finance the projects (political level), those who develop the output of the projects (technical level), and those who use the output of the projects (society level).
This way EGAIS will develop tools for the identification and addressing of ethical issues in emerging technologies which have the potential to be used on an ongoing basis.
